Mission
To be recognized as the creator of one of the strongest, lightest composite materials available and become a leading producer of super-fabrics in the lucrative and prestigious advanced composites market.
The Company
Founded in Nov. 2007 and based on research started at the Hebrew University in 1989, Fulcrum SP Materials is led by a determined team of top businessmen and scientists. Intensive genetic engineering, biochemical and materials science research and development, have brought about a breakthrough in producing composite materials, whose strength and lightweight will profoundly influence a multi-billion dollar industry.
The product is fully patented and its qualities have been proven in exhaustive tests. Fulcrum SP Materials is now poised to enter into joint ventures with leading OEM manufacturers in key industries.
The Market
The carbon fabric (CF) market has grown from $3.3B in 2007 to $5.5B in 2010 and is expected to reach $10B by 2014. This is linked to the fact that carbon fabric has become a critical component in high-end strength-to-weight industries such as aerospace, transportation and professional sports equipment, among the most competitive and demanding markets in the world.
However, the potential of Fulcrum’s technology goes far beyond this, as it can be integrated into a multitude of applications. An ultra-strong, ultra-light composite material which costs no more than existing and inferior materials will have a large demand also in other markets. Success in the premium markets will cause a chain reaction as other large-scale markets jump on the bandwagon. These include transportation, civil engineering, marine, pressure vessels, wind-based electricity, military vehicles, aero-space industry (including UAVs), conductive fabrics, anti-static products and more.
The Invention
Fulcrum SP has found a way of combining one of the strongest and lightest structures known to man with structural fabrics. Carbon NanoTubes (CNTs) are as hard as diamond, 100 times stronger than stainless steel and 6 times lighter. Using its proprietary genetically engineered protein technology, Fulcrum has achieved what no other company has been able to do - bonding CNTs to fabrics such as carbon fibers and Kevlar. This technique is a doorway to many more industry-challenging material combinations. Fulcrum is the only company in the world that can coat and bind nano-particles to fabrics (fibers).
Marketing and Business Development
With main-line development behind it, Fulcrum has been building strategic partnerships for two years. The focus is now on turning existing agreements into marketable products with partners like Arkema, Plasan Sasa, Bayer MaterialScience, IAI, Michelin and Teijin, and developing new ties with other market leaders. Considerable Interest has been generated from articles published in professional journals.
